Egypt Station kicks off at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 with 153,000 units shifted, of which, 147,000 are actual sales. That’s enough to blow past Kamikaze, which was able to move 136,000 units in its second stint on the tally.
When it comes to both his solo career and the music he made as the leader of the band Wings, McCartney has now collected eight chart-toppers, but that’s only part of the story. During his time with The Beatles (and even after they went their separate ways, as the group sent a handful of compilations to the peak years after they stopped making new tunes together), he managed a history-making 19 No. 1 albums, which remains the most leaders any act has claimed. Combining the two outputs, McCartney has now seen an astounding 27 different titles rule the all-genre chart.
When looking at all of his top 10 titles, that number expands quite a bit. On his own, McCartney has sent 20 titles into the top 10 in the U.S., and The Beatles pushed 31 different efforts into the region, bringing his career total to 51 top 10-charters.

Egypt Station marks McCartney’s first No. 1 of any kind in the United States since 2000, when The Beatles’ incredibly successful compilation 1 blasted onto the chart and ruled for quite some time. When it comes to proper studio albums of new material, the singer, songwriter and musician hasn’t appeared at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 since 1982, when his solo record Tug of War rose all the way to the pinnacle.
