So I picked up a 2009 SV650S yesterday. Rode it 140 miles home and have about 200 miles in the saddle now. It's my second bike. My first bike was a 2001 Sportster 883.
I was set on getting a new Z900 but I decided to get this SV because I got it for a good price and I've wanted an SV since high school. It's what I should have got for my first bike. I'm glad I made this decision because the jump from the Harley to the SV is huge as far as performance. I don't think I'm ready for a Z900 yet.
Anyways, this bike is better than I thought it would be. I know it's not very fast but it feels like a rocket to me. Passing in 6th gear is effortless. Handling is amazing. The clutch and transmission are much better than the Sportster's IMO. I see why most people adore theses bikes now. I feel much safer riding now because it is so much more nimble. Cruising at 80 mph is comfortable where as on my other bike anything over 65 mph was unbearable due to vibration and noise.
