If you have received the official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXLT5 firmware on your Galaxy Note and flashed the same, then you are probably looking for a suitable root method. If so, then read the following lines and then apply the proper steps for learning how to easily root the Galaxy Note N7000 on stock JB 4.1.2 XXLT5 software. Be aware though as this guide will work only if you own the Note phablet that is currently running on the latest version of the Android OS, which is the XXLT5 platform.
The Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXLT5 is the latest OTA released by Samsung for the Galaxy Note N7000 devices, the update coming only to resolve some previous reported bugs and issues. If you haven’t applied the OS until now, you can anytime follow our guide for learning how to manually install XXLT5 ROM on the Galaxy Note. Then, don’t hesitate and resume this tutorial for rooting your handset.
The root operation is not official, so it has nothing to do with Samsung. That’s why you need to consider this guide complex and risky. Don’t apply things by yourselves without consulting my directions as you can end up in bricking your Note. Don’t worry though, as everything will be fine if you follow and complete the present step by step guide.
By gaining root access you should know that important changes will be applied on your Galaxy Note. A rooted device is actually a handset that has an unlocked system; so the factory restrictions will be removed. That’s why, once you root your Note, you will gain access to the internal system; furthermore on a rooted system you can make changes, remove in built programs, install complex apps, update with custom ROMs, power up the performances, customize the looks and a lot more.

As you can already tell, by gaining root access you will void the warranty of your smartphone. Well the same will happen in our case, as by following this tutorial you will lose the Note warranty. Of course you can choose to restore the same if needed; all you have to do is to un-root your phablet, or to downgrade / update it to stock / official Android OS.
Also, in order to avoid unfortunate things it is more than indicated to backup the Note data before starting the root operation. In this way you can be sure that even if something unexpected happens your personal info and saves will be in safe hands. Use suitable backup and restore tools from Google Play, or use our tutorials by searching through our how to section.
As you will see below, a Windows running computer, your phablet and its USB cable will be required. Furthermore, on your PC and handset there shouldn’t be any security tools installed, the USB debugging option on your phone must be enabled, the battery status of your Note should indicate more than 60% (if not charge your device) and you should remember that this guide is compatible and will work only for the Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 that is running on the stock Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXLT5 Firmware.
How to Root Galaxy Note N7000 on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXLT5 Firmware
It is important to have the Note drivers installed on your computer; if not you can flash the drivers via Samsung KIES.
- Download and install Odin on your PC.
- Download the rooting package from here on your computer (don’t extract the file).
- Run Odin on the PC.
- Turn off your smartphone.
- Reboot it in download mode by pressing and holding the Power, Volume Down and Menu buttons at the same time.
- Take the USB cable and use it for connecting the Note with the computer.
- Once the connection is establish, on Odin you must notice: the ID:COM section is yellow / blue and the “added” message is being displayed.
- If different you will have to try to re-install the drivers; then repeat the steps from above until Odin will display the mentioned stuffs.
- From Odin you then have to select “PDA”.
- From the menu that opens you need to select the rooting package which was downloaded before.
- Don’t make any other changed on Odin.
- The root process will begin as soon as you click on “Start”.
- The flashing operation will take a couple of minutes; don’t press anything.
- In the end, you will have to unplug the USB cable and reboot your phablet.
In some cases Odin might get stuck; for resolving this problem you will have to close the tool, unplug the USB cable, force restart the Note, re-install the drivers on the PC and repeat the steps from the root procedure. Also, in rare cases in the end, your handset might get stuck in a boot loop; in that case you can resolve the problem by: reboot into recovery mode – press and hold Volume Up, Power and Menu buttons; select “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”; choose “+++go back+++” and “reboot system now”; the Note is now rooted.
So, what do you think, was this guide useful for you? Anyway, before answering check if the Galaxy Note has been successfully rooted or not; remember that the tutorial is working only if your phablet is running on stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXLT5 firmware. That was all for today, but stay close for further guides and Android related tips and tricks.
Finally figured out, excuse me but I am new to this:
After following the steps on Part 2 above and checking with “Root checker” to find that it is not rooted, did the following steps:
1. Shutdown the device completely.
2. Pressing the “Volume Up”+”Menu”+”Power Key” I was taken to the Recovery mode “Philz touch”
3. Selected the first option “Reboot now” and presented with another screen with options.
4. I chose the “Yes – Root the device” option
and Voila! after rebooting (though the Yellow Triangle remains) successfully checked the Root Checker app and it states – “Congratulations This device has root Access”
Thanks Android Advices team and other bloggers for your valuable comments that helped me solve this. Hope it helps others who are/were experiencing this issues.
